Full Version: Manually Blacklist Trackback Ip In 3.33?
Movable Type Community Forum > Using Movable Type > TrackBacks and Pings

I've recently upgraded to 3.33 after using 3.2 and the automated spam filtering for about a year. Almost right away I started getting a lot of trackback spam that was not caught by SpamLookup. The spammer is uncharacteristically using the same IP address and has hit me nearly 50 times today. I've turned on trackback moderation, but I'd like to be able to just ban the IP address. Is this possible with an out-of-the-box install or do I need some additional plugin?

I thought there was, but I can't find it now either. Looking at a 3.2 install, it's a tab called "IP Banning" under Settings but it's not there in 3.3 (I never used it, so I didn't notice that until now).

You might consider my plugin, MTAutoBan, if you have an Apache based webserver. It doesn't support manual banning, however, but it might suit your needs.

In earlier versions of Movable Type, the IP Ban List was available by default. If you did not have any IP addresses in your ban list when you upgraded to Movable Type 3.2+ (or did a new installation), the option would not be visible.

You can enable this feature if desired by adding the following directive to your mt-config.cgi file:
ShowIPInformation 1
