I doubt they're going to change it without a very good reason, though. Lowering the indexing threshold creates a lot more work. Consider that the database now has to keep track of every time "the" comes up.

Milohoss: What exactly is it you've been searching for(see good reason above)? I can't really think of many, if any, things that would need such short terms.

Well - typically I'm searching for specific error phrases. I understand the 3 letter minimum makes sense for single words, but when I put a phrase in quotes, like ""Too many comments have been submitted from you in a short period of time"... then I get the error.

That's not a great example, but specific error phrases would be very useful to search the forums for.
