I'm using MT 3.34 and after about a month of working fine, I'm running into a problem rebuilding indexes.

I have several blogs running on one MT installation, but only 1 blog is giving me the problem. When I do a batch rebuild of the indexes for this blog, I get a 500 server error. I tried to narrow the problem down to an individual index, but saving and rebuilding each one would not reproduce the error.

The blog in question has about 3 times as many index pages as the other blogs, because it acts as the homepage for a network of blogs. I use multiblog to populate this blog with entries from all of the other blogs.

I'm using media temple's grid server as my host, I contacted their support people, and they assured me that this isn't a server resource issue. If that's the case, can you think of any reason why the rebuild would get hung up when doing a batch, but I wouldn't be able to isolate the problem to an individual index?

I'm at a loss at this point, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello wardbh,

The problem is or that your server is not sharing enough resources, or that your blog requires more resources that what media temple shares for your blog to rebuild smile.gif

I am offering myself professional movable type hosting so it won't be polite to blame them

Anyhow, a way to still remain with media temple but solve your problem is to work on optimizing your templates for less CPU usage

You may need some professional consultancy for this job. If you need help ping me

Good luck,

It does sound as though it's the overall total of indexes rebuilding which is timing out - about how much time is the rebuild running before you get the 500 error? Does it seem to fail consistently after X amount of time, or does it vary from rebuild to rebuild?

And how many templates exactly is "3 times as many"? smile.gif
