Full Version: Converting Postgresql Db To Mysql Db?
Movable Type Community Forum > Installing and Upgrading > Databases

I'm moving two sites off my DSL at home to a hosting provider. I use PostgreSQL. They use MySQL. My head is going to explode unless one of these two things exist:

A navigable way to convert my current PostgreSQL db to MySQL.

or

A way (plugin maybe?) to export and then import all of my templates.

Because I'm more likely to beat myself senseless with a wine bottle than I am to have to cut and paste every single index template, archive template, and template module into and out of text files.

Look for the convert-db command line script in the tools directory under your MT install.

If you run across or get pointed at Ogawa's DB Convert, which was more or less a GUI slapped on top of it, note that it's only current as of 3.1 and he doesn't seem to have updated it or intend to. That was pre-tags, and if you're using them, they won't be carried over. Otherwise, it should be safe.

Or you can go around MT altogether, with something like this, though I've not used it myself.

Yeah, found that last one. Not helping me so far, heh. And, for the life of me I don't understand how one uses the convert-db tool. All it takes as a command-line argument (at least according to the source) is the location of a config file -- how do you tell it what DBs types you're converting to or from?

Nevermind. I understand how convert-db works now. Heh.

Thank you. Fairly sure that my blood pressure just returned to normal after last night's annoyance with this server move.
