Howdy guys!

I just upgraded my MT3.3 installation (http://www.josesierra.com) to MT4. I'm having a problem, though - I try to publish, and I get the following error during the rebuild of my index pages:

Publish error in template 'Main Index': Error in <mt:Include> tag: Can't find included template module 'Header'

How do I fix this? I followed the instructions to the letter - what's wrong? Thanks so much for your advice!
sarah
It sounds like you have refreshed your Main Index template, replacing it with the default Movable Type 4.0 template code for that template. The Main Index template in Movable Type 4 includes three template modules (named "Header", "Entry Summary", and "Footer") which probably are not present in your weblog (if you did not refresh all templates, or create them manually).

If you wish to create these template modules in Movable Type 4, the default code for these template modules is available from our Movable Type 4.0 Default Templates page:

This mostly worked - I started to get errors about something called "_trans phrase" and the name of the template module. If I add a template module with that prefix, the site publishes... but check it out: http://www.josesierra.com/. You can see all kinds of extra tags all over the place. How can I make this work?

Have you refresehed all your templates? You can do this from the system dashboard and choose manage blogs. Pick the blog you want to do this with and then choose refresh templates. That way all your templates will have the correct templates and your strange coding on your page will change.

Do not forget to rebuild. Your strange coding has occured because the template picks coding from the other templates needed.

I have refreshed all the templates and rebuilt. Unfortunately, the code continues to be all wonky. What is this 'trans_phrase' thing, anyway?

I had to manually create my template modules, and tried to publish. As it published, it would throw errors about not finding "trans_phrase" (and the name of the template module). I created duplicates of all the template modules with the prefix trans_phrase and it published successfully, but now the output is all wacky.

Man, MT4 is frustrating me to no end! sad.gif Any ideas???

I am not sure about the transphrase stuff but it still seems to me that you have to totally refresh your templates as they are not doing what they are supposed to.

I saw that you had made your own styling and that will not dissapear as you get an automatic backup and can reinstall that.

It still seems as if something is wrong with your templates. Perhaps you should reupload all the templates from the installf older to the server and them make a total refresh. I do believe that it needs that but that is just my opinion and also worth a try.

I am out of other ideas.

I've refreshed all the templates, reloaded them, and tried to massage them as much as possible. Nothing seems to work correctly.

Hm. I think there's only one thing left to do - export the blog and blow away the database, and just do a fresh install. I'll re-import the blog and (hopefully) that'll make things uniform again. I'll have to go back in and re-upload any images, but fortunately there's not too terribly many of those. Either way, I'm still very much frustrated by MT4.

Thanks so much for your ideas and help!

Just a note concerning the refresh templates. You have been manually refreshing them, alla templates are not created doing that but perhaps you have manualy created all templates. By doing as I suggested all templates are created, even the ones that are not there.

Sorry about sticking with the template issue but it can only be that as far as I can tell. Did you reupload the default template folder to your webserver and then rebuilt. Also do so for the latest mt.js in your mt-static folder as well.

...and of course, that totally worked. Of course, it added about an hour and a half to get it all straightened out and all the wrinkles ironed out, but it's a *lot* more straightforward than the 'upgrade' process.
