Full Version: Movable Type (what Is It)?

I have been looking through the various services offered when I visit the Sixapart home page and frankly I'm completely lost or confused (or both) as to what is what. Anybody wish to define the finer points? I sure can't figure out what one is that the other is not or vice versa; Vox, Typepad, Live Journal, Movable Type, on the one hand they all seem to be the same thing, while on the other hand they appear to have some differences. At best I'm thus far able to conclude (rightly or wrongly) that Movable Type is for loners who like to talk to themselves but as with any website it thus also enables one to be found on the Web. Whereas Vox is instead another MySpace that has some kind of interconnectivity with other Vox users. Live Journal completely baffles me. And Typepad is... well, that one baffles me too. Anyone care to shed some light on what's going on here with these Sixapart offerings? One of the founders says in her blog dated a year ago for last entry that she's too involved in creating whatever it is they're creating so she hasn't been blogging but she's instead been blogging on Vox, and more of that can instead be found on Team Vox. Huh??

"...it's not that I haven't had time to blog, it's because I've been doing a whole lot of personal blogging over on Vox...."

"I did want to write and check in and say that more of my blogging can be found at Team Vox...."

Obviously I'm not understanding the whole picture so if anyone cares to enlighten, please do. smile.gif

Thanks.

If you want to set up/maintain your own installation of blogging software and customize it how you will, that's Movable Type.

If you want to blog, but can't be bothered/don't know how/don't want to/can't do your own software installation, that's TypePad. It's a blogging service like Blogger/Blogspot

If you want to blog and are interested in networking with other bloggers with similar interests, that's Vox. 6A bills it as social blogging, which would make it the MySpace/Facebook of the blogging world I suppose.

If you want to be part of an online community that happens to blog as well, that's LiveJournal. I've never used LJ, so this is only my impression of what it is. May or may not be accurate.
