Full Version: Moving Mt 3.2 To A New Host - Berkeley Db Issue
Movable Type Community Forum > Installing and Upgrading > Databases

I moved a MT 3.2 installation from one web host to another. I changed the location of the DataSource in mt-config.cgi. All of the DB files appear to be there, yet going to mt.cgi redirects me to mt-upgrade.cgi, and my account seems to be invalid. Any ideas what might have happened, and what can be done about it?

Additionally, mt-check looks fine - DB_File is installed, as are all required modules. Help! smile.gif

Are you sure the new host is running the same version of Berkeley as the last?
You might start with going over the KB article on converting between Berkeley versions.

Awesome, thanks. However w/ db_upgrade I get:

CODE
db_upgrade: Berkeley DB library configured to support only DB_PRIVATE environments

Is there some way of fixing this, or am I looking at db_dump'ing each file?

Ah, nevermind - despite the error, the upgrade still worked. Thanks!

Does anyone know what I can do if my host isn't willing/able to help me?

Neither the db_dump author.db or db_dump185 author.db commands work. What could I tell my host to check or try? Is there a way to install the ability for those commands to work onto his server?

Get a new host?
That's not entirely a joke.

But anyway. It's highly unlikely you'd be able to install anything yourself that would let you run those commands. Is it not an option to just upgrade the database to MySQL? Unless you plan on using 3.2 forever, you're probably going to have to do this eventually; Berkeley isn't supported as of 4.0, and was largely disrecommended even before that.

I will be getting a new host (I have already). The problem is I need to get my entries off this server.

I don't think my current host has MySQL. Could I copy all my files from that host to the new host and then try installing MySQL?

If the new host has the same version of Berkeley, yes. Or at least lets you run those upgrade commands.
The files are completely portable.

Me again.

Could you please tell me how I could check (on my own) whether my new host has berkeley?
