Full Version: Undoing Deleting An Author

Hi, I'm an idiot and I need your help.

We were having an issue with one of the Authors not being able to publish their post.

I thought that it might be due to the fact that someone "new" to the back-end of MT, who created the Author's profile, gave them permissions and that it should have been set up by the "first/highest" admin. So, I logged in with the "first/highest" admin name -- deleted the user and proceeded to discover that all their posts were no longer posted by that Author.

At the time, I thought no big deal. I'll re-create the Author, then do a "Transfer Entry Ownership"

but I received this error -- Can't call method "id" on an undefined value at lib/Workflow/App.pm line 101.

BTW, I still am not able to have this "new" Author be able to publish their own entry? After clicking on Save, the selection menu defaults to Unpublished and someone else can publish their entry. What gives with that anyways?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance,
kronus

That's a Workflow error. Maybe you should talk to Apperceptive about it.

Thanks for the response, but do you know how I can have the author's postings reflect that they are the original author after deleting, followed by re-creating the author's profile?

I thought that using the transfer ownership method would be easy, but I'm sure that it doesn't see the original ID of the Author to transfer it and I'm sure that's what Workflow will tell me. I have contacted them by signing up for a membership to their forums and I'm awaiting a reply.

In the meantime, I have to find another way. Is there a way to find out what the original ID of the Author was? Is there a table to re-enter the Author's original info, so that MT can recognize the postings as belonging to the Author?

There has to be a way.

Thanks in advance
sarah
You may be able to assign the entries to an author (another one, or if you 'recreate' an author with the original name), via the Batch Editor/power-edit mode (depending on your version).

Thanks for the response Sarah.

I have Version 3.33. I found the Batch Editor feature that you mentioned above. Incredible that I didn't notice this before. I've assigned the author to the re-created-same-name-as-before-my-blunder and it worked

Thank you soooooooooooooooo much. You may have saved my job. Since my father's passing, I just haven't been able to concentrate. Nevertheless, good people such as yourself are helping me be able to win the battle against myself :-)

Thanks once more,
