As these boards don't seem to be very active (is everyone moving to WordPress?), I thought I'd add some suggestions that I would REALLY like to see in MT 4.1:
    1. The ability to export templates (I've mentioned this before but I think that the current inability to do so is a HUGE design mistake)
    2. Add an emoticon feature smile.gif
    3. Spell check (I hate having to cut and paste from my word processor just to catch my stupid spelling errors)
    4. The ability to post both text and graphics files directly from a cell phone (i.e., a moblog function)

In addition, there are other very confusing "features" that don't seem to be explained adequately (at least for me). For example, when creating new entries one can select from several different "formats" - "none", convert line breaks, Markdown, Markdown with "SmartyPants" (huh?), rich text, and Textile 2 (?) Instead of having so many seemingly exoteric "formats," entering either plain text or raw html seems to be far simpler to use.

    Just a few ideas.

    TemplateExporter
There's a function under System Overview -> Tools -> Backup that currently dumps all your blog's data, but is already planned to be expanded for allowing you to specify which particular bits. That functionality had already been half-built at one point, but I guess other features gained greater importance.

Ugh. Poke Dan about updating Smilies. This is not core functionality.

I think this is already in the works, though not aware of any timeline.

You've seriously never encountered either Markdown or Textile? They're hardly esoteric. And there are a lot of people who'd take significant issue with you suggesting that only manual HTML or plain text be offered as "simpler."
If you don't like the options, then disable or delete their respective plugins.

Template Exporter costs ONE HUNDRED dollars - Ouch!!!! I'm not having any problem, at all, exporting or importing data into MT.

Nope, never come across either one of those. I've also used HTML for years - I'm not suggesting it's for everyone but it certainly isn't that difficult either. In fact, I rather prefer to use it when I'm tweaking things. It's not that I don't like the other options - there just seem to be so many, which I really have not come across before.
