Full Version: Got An Error: Bad Objectdriver Config: Connection Error: Access Denied
Movable Type Community Forum > Installing and Upgrading > Databases

Hi

After three years of error free blogging suddenly last Friday I click on my MT log-in screen and:

Got an error: Bad ObjectDriver config: Connection error: Access denied for user: 'kiwiblog_kiwifru@localhost' (Using password: YES)

What the!

My host pleaded ignorance, so I went into the forums and it turns out this error is a fairly regular occurence.

What I really need to know is (and excuse my ignorance, it's been three years since I've gone anywhere near my database and I'm way out of practice) where can I find the mt.cfg file that everybody posts their mySql info into their topics?

Many thanks

Is there any particular reason you started a new thread for this?
It makes it harder for people to find answers if they're having the same issue and you go randomly splintering things off.

Let's clear something up: This is a regular occurence because people input the database information incorrectly. Because well, the information is wrong. Which yours was: the db user didn't exist.
Don't suggest blame lies with the application for simple user error.

What remains unresolved in that thread is that you seem to have indicated you've been using MT for some time, that the database user magically disappeared and that your host simply acted dumb on the matter. If that's an accurate assessment, I would be demanding some answers.

You may not have an mt.cfg file(anymore?) at all. A few releases back the config file was changed to mt-config.cgi, though the older one is still supported if you've kept it around all this time. If you do have an mt.cfg, I'd recommend renaming it to mt-config.cgi anyway. Either would be in the same directory as all your other MT files.

Also, there never was an MT 3.4. What version exactly are you talking about?

First of all, sorry for starting the new thread. I should have posted the old one in the database thread in the first place.

I know this is my host's error and not an MT issue. The problem is my host support was not helpful in any way and are having to refer it to their Technical Team "some time this week". I know it isn't good enough on their part, but I just wanted a bit of advice so I could try and fix this myself. All I want to do is blog again.

Thanks

Erm...who is this host? I want to know to tell people to run away.

Did you find the config file? And assuming your information is now correct, are you still unable to make MT talk to the database?

The host informs me that they have referred to the "2nd Level Technical Team" and will advise me when they figure it out. Woopee. My host is a tiny New Zealand webhost (and I am an insigificant Kiwi blogger smile.gif) and I can guarantee I'm the only person they're hosting using Movable Type, so it'd be no use telling you who they are!

Anyway, I figured it out for myself, with a lot of help from the forum and another MT buddy.

Found the config file, all correct... but, for some, unknown, completely bewildering reason, the password in my mt-db-pass.cgi file was the problem. It wasn't "YES" as per my all-new-error-message.

All I had to do was change it and BINGO it worked.

Many, many thanks, and hoping I don't have to bug you all anytime soon!
