Full Version: Upload File Bug In Mt4

I'm writing an entry and want to upload an image to display in the entry. I have an 800 pixel wide image. I want MT to create a thumbnail that's only 350 pixels wide and display that in the entry, linking the thumbnail to a popup of the original image.

Everything worked as it should.

Ahh, but what if I want to upload a second image for the entry I'm writing? I have several images I want to use in the entry I'm writing and each requires a thumbnail, but the only way to create a thumbnail in MT4 is to click the button labelled "Create a new entry using this uploaded file."

This is either a bug or a really dumb oversight.

The workaround is to open another browser window and create new entry after new entry to create the thumbnails when uploading files, each time copying and pasting the code into the original entry in the other browser window.

Has there been any progress in fixing the bugs, lack of documentation and terribly slow interface since the launch of MT4? This feels like such a huge step backwards since MT3. Sure, MT4 is a lot prettier than MT3 was, but I don't care how pretty the interface is. I want a platform that makes blogging easier. In that regard, like I said, MT4 feels like a huge step backwards.

Speaking of the poor implementation of the new upload file settings... the settings will blow out my template.

I appreciate that they've added classes into the upload file feature, but thanks a whole lot for letting me know that I needed to add those classes to my css when I upgraded. The reason I chose MT instead of WordPress is that MT gave me the ability to custom design my own site and structure. MT4 is doing its best to take away that ability, and it's frustrating.

Also, is there a reason why the floats and margins aren't built into the class instead of putting them in the MT generated image code? 40 pixels of margins will blow out my design. I can easily edit it out every time I upload an image... but what I can't do is recommend MT4 to anyone who uses any form of a custom site design.

I really don't mean to be so negative here, but I have yet to find one change in Movable Type from 3 to 4 that is a functional improvement. I blog less now because I put off dealing with the slow and annoying platform MT has become. Today, I wanted to post a bunch of photos from a charity event. Instead, I'm doing this. It's frustrating.

Upgrading from MT 3 to 4 was easy.
Living with the upgrade has been very hard.

Unless I'm missing something, why don't you just click the Insert Image button again to upload the next image? No need to create a new entry just to make a thumbnail for the next image.

It looks like you misread my post. The only way to add a second image with a thumbnail to an entry is to click the box that says "Create a new entry using this uploaded file." So, by creating the thumbnail, you force MT to clear what you're working on and create a new entry.

It's easy to add a second image to an existing entry so long as it doesn't require a thumbnail. But, for reasons that make no sense, MT has hidden some of the image options which only become available after clicking "Create a new entry using this uploaded file."

I've got a bunch of entries in my blog that use multiple image thumbnails. Each time I click the Insert Image button, I get the same set of options after the upload screen for setting thumbnail size, image popup, size, position, etc. I don't think I've ever run into a situation where the 'Use thumbnail' option wasn't available.

Off the top of my head I can't think of any MT settings that are thumbnail related (although I don't know all the new ones yet). are you using any plugins? what ImageDriver (in mt-config.cgi) are you using? are the images you're trying to upload all the same type?
