Full Version: Spacing Problem

Hello, I'm hoping that someone can help me with this problem as it's been driving me nuts.

I'm creating a new template so that the blog portion of my site looks consistent with the rest of the site's content. Everything looks fine, except that there is a large vertical space between an image and the second table (which is nested inside the parent table).

Originally that space was filled with what I guess to be artifacts looking like this:

I changed the page's charset to utf-8 which eliminates them in internet explorer, but does not eliminate the vertical space they were using. It also does not eliminate them at all in firefox.

Also the artificats appear on a single line in firefox, while they take up multiple lines in internet explorer.

There are no line breaks in my code and the text formatting is set to none (both potential fixes according to my googling that didn't help).

I am using Movable Type version 4.01

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It's pretty much impossible to even speculate about this without an actual link.

But before you even bother with that, have you run your page through the W3 validator and fixed any errors?

The code is valid, but I believe I located the problem. Apparently the fact that the code was indented caused movable type problems when interpreting it. Whether it's multiple spaces or some problem caused by moving the code from textpad to the movable type GUI, getting rid of the indents got rid of the spacing problem as well.

Thanks for your repsonse.
