Full Version: Error 500 - Internal Server Error - Too Many Entries?

Hello,

Last night I posted a few news topics in my archive, a total of 9. After the 6th entry, the 7th, 8th, and 9th all received Server 500 errors while trying to publish.

BUT!!, when I hit refresh on my actual Blog, the entry was still posted and viewable. I then went back to my MT control panel and it shows the entry in there as well for editing.

However when I go to edit the last 3 I did last night, and hit preview I can preview them, but whenever I hit Save, without making any changes whatsoever, I get the Internal 500 error again.

I have a total of 30 entries now, 10 categories, and NO Plugins!

I use 1 and 1 hosting, there business package allowing 2500 GB transfer, CRON, and I thought a lot of good features. But perhaps it is my own server and not the software. I'm not sure, where I should start to see where the error is.

At the same time our site also has a forum and we've had tons of posts on certain days and for some reason have never got an internal server error from too much forum usage. So I don't understand why I'm getting it with the blog.

Please help with troubleshooting ideas, or ask me for any information you need to clarify what would cause this.

I'm almost afraid to continue using the blog as I don't want to continue getting that error.

Thank you,

Scorpion

IT's MT Version 4.1 if that is needed, please, what other information do you need???

Anyone?

I've read the "read this before posting threads" and such before I ever posted here in the first place. I have not seen an answer to this question yet.

It sounds server related obviously but I'm not sure what would be causing the problem or what I need to ask them about.

Thanks,

Scorpion

Hi.

I havenīt got a solution but perhaps a possible way to solve it temporarily. MT killed my website as well and first I thought it was the ISP after a serverkrasch but later on I realised it was not the the host but MT killing the resources despite me having top memory, upload memory and so on.

I tested the Launchbackgroundtasks and it made a great difference. In addition to this I downloaded the betas that are available in the movabletype.org site (don not download the beta 4.15 beta 4 or the propack beta 1. Stay with the beta version 3 and choose launchbackgroundtasks. Please also make a backup of your database first and also download what you have in your /mt/ folder now so that if anything goes wrong you can always upload your basic MT install folder and keep things intact. I always do that but till yet I have not needed to reupload it (besides this last beta I did not get to work). To be safe is better than to be sorry.

Here is some info on backgroundtasks http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/a...roundtasks.html

Perhaps this does not help you but I hope that it solves the servererrors you are having. It is at least worth a try.

Why you should not download beta 4 or propack 1 is because it no longer rebuilds all your entries if at all so I backed one beta back.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately we have still been unable to fix the problem.

I called my host and we have a whopping 12 MB or 16 MB of CPU Usage/Mem Limit due to being on a Shared Server. However I said what could I do to change the problem and the host person I spoke with told me to use a MYSQL database instead of the current one.

However, my website coder claims we already have it on a mysql database and so that isn't the case.

I unfortunately am not sure, but obviously trust my coder/friend rather than the host.

We tried it again after making those changes and it still errored. Whats so insane and I just don't get is that the entry still posts even with the error. So while however unfortunate, many of you reading might say, no problem then.

But the problem is that I also send the RSS Feed of this to my vbulletin forum through an RSS Poster Bot that comes standard with there forum software. It has successfully pulled all the entries except for the 3 the other night that have had Error 500's and the one we just tested now with the change.

So I stand most confused at this point. I really like the blog and got the hang of using it, but I don't know who to blame or how to troubleshoot basically since so many different parts of this could be the problem. Yet again while I think it's MT, due to the error ONLY occurring there and not anywhere else on my website, BUT again...without any plug ins or modifications to the standard MT download, aside from templates...colors and such. This just don't make sense.

Well here is another update for the record.

I told my coder/friend about this and apparently we found a fix TEMPORARILY and it has not been reproduceable unfortunately.

He found something on repairing MYSQL databases through phpmyadmin and it worked temporarily and posted the 3 entries from the other night that got the server 500 error, into our vb forum.

However the 4th entry I made had the same error again, and this time the database repair didn't work. Every time I post an entry the mysql database is fried by too much data. So therefore I have no solution for our problem and it appears as if there is no support or known fix for this problem.

At this time I'm obviously frustrated, and don't want to talk bad about the product as I did enjoy using it. But at the same time, I'm very glad I didn't buy the pro version since we can't get the free one to work without error over even a 2 month period.

If there is no solution, we'll probably have to switch to Wordpress or something else that will work and not kill the database every time a simple text entry is posted.

Thanks,

Scorpion
