I originally installed Movable Type 4 in a subdirectory, /journal/, but while I want some files to remain there, I'd like the pages I have control over, such as the Main Index, Styles, and the Archive Index to be published outside of this directory. I'd love for the Main Index and Styles to be published in the site root, whereas the Archive Index would be published in /archives/ along with the archives. Unfortunately, when I tried to change my publishing settings to reflect these changes (by changing the site URL, etc.), MT complained that it didn't have the permissions to move these files to their respective folders. This was fine for the archives folder, which I CHMODed to 777. But how could I CHMOD public_html? Or rather, why would I have to?

I've never had a problem with this with earlier versions of MT, so it's surprising to me that MT4 proves to be the most fidgety of all of the versions.

Any help would be very appreciated!
