Full Version: Error 500 Inserting Image, Managing Assets

Hi,

I have a client using MTOS 4.1 on a Network Solutions hosted site. I cannot say I am very happy with their support, they are quite dense. They don't even give you access to error logs, and for that matter, error logging was not even turned on for this account.

I have been developing a site for a month or so, uploading assets both inserting them into Entries, Pages, and just uploading images to have as a library of images (and pdf) to use at a later date.

As of Saturday night, that has changed, and I do not see why. It seems the upload process completes, as I have the files on the web server, and I can view them in a browser, when the Insert Image screen closes and it is supposed to insert the image into the current entry, I immediately get an Internal Server Error.

I also get the 500 error when I just try to go to Manage > Assets.

I am inclined to believe that there is nothing wrong with MT. But I don't know. My gut feeling is that Network Solutions changed something on the server.

Any help? I am at my wits end here. I have never seen this issue before.

Permissions on the MT CGI scripts are fine, as are all the folders on the site.

The major change is the fact that I changed publishing from /public_html/staging to /public_html. However the pages publish just fine.

Forgot to mention. I had added images into pages and entries after I changed the publishing root file just fine. Now I can't do that.

Many thanks,

Ken

I tried posting an entry to a blog that was not at /public_html. It is under public_html, just like the staging site was.

I was able to insert an image, and see it show up in the WYSIWYG editor. When I hit save to have the page published, I got another Internal Server Error (it starts to publish... then the 500 error).

I also cannot manage assets on this blog either. So I am one step closer with a different blog, but not really.

Same results when using a newly created blog at /public_html/test/ as when I moved the staging site to the web document root.

*sigh*

Two thoughts:

- Since you changed the publishing paths, the assets_c folder has probably also changed, so MT wants to rebuild the thumbnails it displays when viewing the Manage Assets screen. Experience shows that generating a bunch of thumbs at once can bring a bad server down.

- Network Solutions is a poor host. Experience shows this, too, at least for me.

Aye, I don't care for Network Solutions either. But truth be told *shudder* they are better than the client's old host.

I have an assets_c folder at my document root. I think because I copied it there.

But what does that matter for the two other blogs I have in this MT install?

It doesn't matter which blog ID I am on, I still get a 500 on this page:

mt.cgi?__mode=list_asset&blog_id=4

And when adding an image to a page/entry, I get an error 500 when it sends me back to mt.cgi.

What if I delete every assets_c folder on the site? I doubt that is going to do any help.

This is a major problem. My client cannot upload images or PDF documents now. Which negates one of the basic functions of using MT for client maintanace.

I have got to get this resolved, and quickly. Does ANYONE have an idea of what is wrong. Or can point me in the right direction to tell the "support" at Network Solutions what is most likely the problem.

Thanks,

Ken

I deleted the assets_c at the document root. I republished the entire site.

A new assets_c folder was created.

Still error 500.

I would check the ImageMagic install, have they done any server upgrades?

Hi Ken,

Wish I had a solution, but I agree with OtherNiceMan that it seems to be breaking at an image processing function, since you're successfully making database changes and writing files/folders. System Overview, Tools, System Information will show you what's installed. Given your timeline, I can't imagine it's not something NetSol broke with a server update.

If you get a breather to talk to your client about their host, Pair has taken good care of me, including the occasional MT question/tweak.

Trying to solve the same problem on Yahoo! hosting at the moment. In any case I'll keep you informed.

What file formats are you trying to upload?
