Full Version: Must Save And Log In Twice To Edit Entry Body And Template Fields

I must save and log in twice to edit entry body and template fields.

Bug Odd Behavior Description:

ENTRIES: In a web browser, I initially log in to MT (as administrator) to begin a session. I can navigate to possibly all sections and type in some fields. I click "Write Entry" and can fill in a title. But, I cannot place a cursor or type in the "Entry Body Field". I click save and am sent back to the login screen. I login a second time. The entry with title only is saved and I have no further related problems for the entire logged in session. I can edit all saved entries and create new entries after the second login. After first login at the "Create Entry" screen, I can place a cursor in and manipulate all other Entry fields and menus. Clicking other fields, switching to Extended Entry or changing the format pull-down selection all seem to be functioning. But, this does not cause the Body field to allow editing. I recently installed the FCKeditor plugin with no change to problem.

TEMPLATES: Simlarly but intermitantly perhaps dues to browser cache or cookies (in Firefox2and3 only. Behavior is somewhat different in Safari), I initially log in to begin a session, click Design > Templates. For example; I click "Template Modules" going to Sidebar - 3 Column Layout. The field for editing is grayed out. I click save and am returned to the login screen. I login a second time (I believe I am returned to the template screen) and can now edit the template. I think this happens with other templates too.

This has happened in MT 4.0 and after upgrading to 4.1 (Open Source) - in browsers: safari, firefox2 and firefox3 on Mac OSX10.3x and 10.4x with intel and G4 CPUs. My host is dreamhost.

This is now a very serious problem now I am going to be bringing a large group of authors onto a blog. I have been using this login-twice work-around for myself and one other author. But that won't cut it with my new group of author techno-phobes and people who don't know me.

This is for an anti-torture human rights project which is why we are too poor to purchase MT pro support. Your support really does make a difference.

Thanks! -Don

This normally points to a difference in the domain name specified in the config file CGIPath and the domain name you are connected to.

Hi thanks!
The CGIPath domain name and the location of my MT installation are the same verified below with config file text and a grab from my ftp client MT installation directory. Is there something I am missing when you say; "...the domain name you are connected to"?

CODE
# The CGIPath is the URL to your Movable Type directory
  CGIPath    http://www.radicalism.us/mt/

  # The StaticWebPath is the URL to your mt-static directory
  # Note: Check the installation documentation to find out
  # whether this is required for your environment.  If it is not,
  # simply remove it or comment out the line by prepending a "#".
  StaticWebPath    http://www.radicalism.us/mt/mt-static

  #================ DATABASE SETTINGS ==================

  ##### MYSQL #####
  ObjectDriver DBI::mysql
  Database moderniadb2
  DBUser modernia
  DBPassword xxxxxx
  DBHost db2.modernia.net

  RichTextEditor FCKeditor

I would xxx out your password.

By domain you are connected to I mean that are you going to http://www.radicalism.us/ or http://radicalism.us/? As this would make a difference in the security cookie and force a re-login.
radicalism.us
(Unbelievable goof...thanks)

I do not where to get the info to answer your question.
So, I eliminated the WWW from this config file line:
CODE
The CGIPath is the URL to your Movable Type directory
   CGIPath    http://www.radicalism.us/mt/

I am still unable to edit those fields but when I save the file I am trying to work on, I am not driven to login for a second login. It just saves and I still cannot edit field. So I changed setting back to a url with WWW.

I just noticed that when I login to this system as a different user with author and commenter privileges, I can edit an entry on the first login.
