When I made a fresh install of MT 4.2 RC1, I restored my blogs from a backup file of my MT4.1 installation. I have noticed that most of the restore went swimmingly, except that all of my comments were lost! Is there some way to attempt to restore only the comments in my new installation, or do I have to restore the entire backup file again and loose any modification made since (not a devastating loss, but very very annoying, wasting hours of my time)? Thanks for any help!

So I checked my mysql database for my new installation (mt 4.2) and the comments are in fact in the comment table. Any ideas why when view the manage >> comments page no comments are shown on the page? Also, I want to say, the comments system in general is thoroughly screwed up in my new installation. At the system overview level, the box to disable all comments is not ticked, at the blog level comments are allowed and at the entry level comments are accepted and I have an Entry type archive, but no comment form ever appears on my blog, or a link to "comment". Why??!!??!!??!!

Here's my most recent entry in the blog:

Like all entries, there is no comment form. To try to fix this problem with brutue force I removed the MT tags mtifcommentsactive that wrap the comment form in the default comment form template. Otherwise, the templates are unchanged with regard to comments. Still there is no comment form or any comment that was written on a previous installation. Thanks for any help in advance.

Did you rebuild the site after trying to change those tick boxes?

To my knowledge those tick boxes have never changed (unless these states are other than default). I checked, doubled checked, triple checked, etc. and then rebuilt the site and never seen MT 4.2 produce the comment forms. Today I even tried rebuild the site with comments disabled at the blog level and then immediately rebuilding the site again with comments enabled. Still no change.

Is this still with the default templates?

Have you checked the bug database for 4.2 RC1, it might a know problem with that release candiate. The latest beta is 4.2 RC3 so you are a bit behind.

Rather than digging through bug reports I figured I'd just go ahead and upgrade to RC3 and be done with it. I upgraded my installation and rebuilt the blog and still there is no comment form. Although, on the plus side, those missing comments from previous installation are now present, but they are orphaned, so I need to figure out how to tell them which blog and entry they belong to.

Soooooo, are we stumped? Do I have any course of action from here? Thanks so much your help thus far OtherNiceMan.

If everything is default and comments are enabled in global settings, blog level and post level then yes, currently stumped.

Do you have this problem if you create a new test blog?
