I manage several blogs in one installation of Movable Type. Sometimes I have to update a global template and the changes need to appear on all the blogs. Is there an easy way to make Movable Type republish all the pages in all the blogs in my installation? Right now I have been going to each blog's dashboard, clicking on the "Publish Site" button, and waiting as the pop-up window publishes all the files. Surely there is a quicker way to do this?

ETA: Ugh, I noticed a typo in the thread title. I meant to say "...blogs AT once?"

I would be curious to hear an answer about this as well... I manage over a dozen blogs and the same thing happens.

For the time being, I open two or three different browsers (IE, Firefox, etc.) and that way I can have at least two blogs publishing at a time. This is especially helpful for when I have to publish a blog which will take a long time to publish (an hour or two).

I do wonder if a multi-publish option would slow down the connection at all?

I still haven't found a solution for this, but I have to wonder if the publishing queue could somehow help

Any ideas?

Well, as I read it, the pages will be built on a schedule, based on priority but it still is only publishing a single page at a time but it can do a lot of them quickly.

The PowerRebuild plugin will let you simply rebuild files. It's an MT3 plugin but is functional with MT4.

How would the Publishing Queue fit into the mix? If you're using the PubQ to republish the files you'll see the front end finish quickly and the files will be rebuilt in the background. Yes, they are rebuilt one at a time, just as without PubQ, but an advantage is that you are not anywhere near as likely to cause the server to time out if you've got a huge number of files to rebuild--a significant advantage! Also, files rebuild at the same speed regardless of using the PubQ.

If you've got a hefty backend, you can use the PubQ to get things done faster: set up multiple workers. Having two or three workers will get the republishing done quicker!

can anyone who is already publishing multiple blogs give me some tips on how to set up my blogs. I have many web site domains and want all of them to have a blog and would like to publish identical or very similar posts to all of them at once. I have not tried doing this. My main concern is that when uploading the MT 4.2 files to my web site host, go daddy, I noticed that there is only ONE database file. Can I use this one database for creating all my MT professional web sites? OR do I have to use some sort of special configuraiton? Thanks and happy new year.

Movable Type only needs one database no matter how many blogs you run of a single install. You can pull posts in from other blogs using multiblog tags e.g. http://www.movabletype.org/documentation/a.../multiblog.html
