Full Version: Comments Not Working At All

All:

I am MT ignorant and I have been left holding the keys to getting our VERY important site fixed.

At some point, something changed because MT commenting just stopped completely.

I have checked feedback settings globally and template specific, but yet feedback settings
have been enabled on both systems.

The error my users are getting is "You are not allowed to add comments.". I have checked everything I need
to check and I am resorting to the forums to guide me.

Any ideas???

And you have no idea what that is? I mean, the application doesn't change itself...
Was the MT installation upgraded? Did you host make any changes to the underlying server?
And what do you mean you've been "left holding the keys?" That makes it sound like someone else was responsible for the system previously. If so, what did s/he do recently?

That error is due to a banned IP address(cf.), for what it's worth. That may give you some idea where this is coming from.
What version are you running? IP banning has been deprecated, and hidden, for a while now.

Where can I find this setting in MT 4.01?

Thanks ...

Fwiw... Right after we upgraded to 4.1, bosses wanted to moderate our Open comments on the main blog during a nasty exchange. Somebody with a little knowledge went in and changed the settings from Open to Off, and didn't rebuild because they didn't know which rebuild option to choose.

Comments stopped. A test comment revealed that commenters now got a message that registration was required, but there was no way to register.

When I arrived, I reestablished comments, set them to be moderated, and rebuilt the entry archives. The comment forms disappeared from all entries. Nothing I tried changed that.

We ended up cloning a new blog and importing the broken blog's posts. Comments reappeared. All was well again.

The point: This may not be easily fixable from the dashboard. Cloning and importing is very easy.
