I have the "post to blog" set up on del.icio.us - or as they're now called - delicious.com - but when my web host upgraded me to 4.1, my links stopped getting posted regularly. I've gone in a reset the posting several times, but I'm getting the error message "Invalid login." Before you say it - it's on Movable Type's side, not delicious. For some reason, Movable Type won't let delicious log in.

Any idea how to fix it?

Sorry, no idea how to fix it, but don't feel alone. Moveable Type won't let A LOT of people log in. Like most of the users of my site have gone through endless headaches, and even me, right now, it wouldn't let me log in to reply to this post. I persevered, and prevailed. (two of my favorite words that start with the letter "p"). but this is a widespread problem that Moveable Type needs to address. Oh, and if you use captcha? Faggaedaboudit.

I've seen someone else crabbing about her Delicious links not going through recently, but don't have any detail at the moment. Giving her a poke. In the meantime, let's get some from you and see if things match up.

[I've never used this Delicious tool. Answer questions accordingly.]

Stopped posting regularly as in it does sometimes work? Or is it not at all?

Where's this error being displayed? Over at Delicious?
Is there anything that looks possibly related in your activity log? It tracks failed login attempts.
Are you pointing Delicious at the rsd.xml file, or directly at the mt-xmlrpc.cgi file? Have you tried the other? (I have no idea if this'll make any difference, but hey it's already not working...)

Before you say it - it's on Movable Type's side, not delicious.

What makes you say? For example, does it still work for you on some other installation of MT? Is it the same version?
Keep in mind that the feature is labeled as experimental, and while the MT team works really hard at keeping the application compatible forwards and backwards, Delicious' claim of simply "Movable Type" support doesn't tell us anything about where they've actually tested it.
Also remember that it isn't only your MT installation that's changed recently. Delicious had a major overhaul just last week; it wasn't just design, but the actual back end application.

[EDIT] Have you tried the Delicious forums? Because there are a couple people in this thread who seem to be having the same problem, and it would appear to suggest from at least one of their comments that this happened after Delicious upgraded.

For some reason, Movable Type won't let delicious log in.

Do you actually know this, and how? All that's easily determined is that the login is failing. Unless you've seen the actual query sent to MT, it's possible the information really is bad. While you probably did input it into the Delicious form correctly, they can still mess it up later.

Tommart, if you're having some problem of your own that's fine; go ahead and start a thread or continue an existing one, but what does your response have at all to do with Steph's question other than giving you a chance to complain in a non-sequitur fashion and waste her time coming back to see a non-solution?

...continuing from the previous, this forum isn't even run on MT.

It stopped posting at all. It used to post regularly. huh.gif

Yep, the error message is over at Delicious. I haven't checked my error logs; I will do so. Thanks - I didn't think of that in my attempt to troubleshoot. It's pointing at the mt-xmlrpc.cgi file. I didn't know I could point it at another; I'll give that a shot and see if it works and report back here.

The Delicious blog posting still works like clockwork to other blogs I have set up for friends on WordPress, which lead me to believe it's on MT's log in end. But correlation is not proof of causation, so I should be checking both ends.

I will check that out, also - thanks for the pointer!

Well, I was making that determination by the error message that I was getting on the delicious side. I'll take another look at my error logs and see what I can see.

Thanks for the critical thinking - I didn't think through all the possibilities in my frustration. I'll share what I can find out....

Hm. I set up a job last night pointing at a demo installation, and got the silent failure some people have been describing. No error at Delicious; seems like it ran just fine, but nothing posted at all, either.

Nope - my activity log shows nothing about attempted or failed log ins.

I tried pointing at the rsd.xml file, but got errors with that, too - different ones, that say "http error." So I'm guessing that isn't a solution.

I'm perusing the thread, where they acknowledge that they broke the tool for some users, at least. I'm posting over there to see if the problem is on that end. The lack of any login errors in my MT activity log suggests the problem is indeed over there.

They suggested a tool that is helping many non- MT users of the tool - http://deliciousblogrescue.mozdev.org/ A firefox plug-in that lets one go back and run older or missing posts days. It seems to help others, but only gives me errors, so no go. I'll continue to watch their thread for a solution and post back here if one appears.

Oh, also here's a question -- If I just plug this url into my browser, shouldn't I see something?

http://www.mysite.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi

That's the URL the delicious tool hits to post. When I throw that into my address bar, I get an error that the file can't be found, and yet, I can see that file is in existence in my mt directory.

I should see something at that URL, according to what I'm finding in MT documentation and elswhere on the web. I'm thinking this script is broken on my MT installation, and thus no attempted logins are showing up on MT.

The question is -- if that script is borked, is this my particular installation of MT, or an error everywhere?

First thing I would do is confirm the permission on the file.

That was also the first thing I did. The permissions are correct.

So I'm guessing that the recent 4.2 upgrade is occupying everyone's time.... but there's still a problem with the xmlrpc script, that seems to be on the Movable Type end of the equation. I never got any response about that.

Anyone else having a problem? Any ideas how I might fix it?

If I try and access mt-xmlrpc.cgi directly through a url I get a File Not Found, however live writer which uses the mt-xmlrpc.cgi is working OK. The not found error when trying to access directly may be by design.

Which password are you using?

biggrin.gif

I think the password may have been the issue. In the past, I used a login and password that I created specifically for delicious and it worked great. I didn't know that there was a "web services" password for tools like delicious. I stumbled on the answer on someone else's forum when they mentioned how to find your "web services" password. (in administrative settings)

Plugged that one in instead; it seem to be functioning.
