I tried upgrading from MT 4.1 to 4.21 this morning. When I try to access my mt.cgi, I get the following message:

Can't use string ("$Commercial::CustomFields::Util:") as a HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at /. . ./cgi-bin/extlib/MT/Template/Context.pm line 50.

I tried putting my mt-cgi and mt-static files back from my backup, but I now get exactly the same message. Please help!

My apologies. While I received the error when I upgraded, there's nothing to suggest it might not also happen with a clean installation, so I thought it might be useful for those users. I'll refrain in the future.

I fixed the problem by nuking my MT installation and reinstalling from scratch. Thankfully, it managed to link up to my database with minimal fuss and everything is working fine.
