I have 2 large sites. One will eventually have 50 parent categories, with over 1,000 child categories total.

The other will have around 200 parent categories with a large number of child categories.

Is there a way to show just the parent categories, and list the quantity of child categories beside them ?

Basically:

Arizona (20)

Then if the viewer wants to see what towns in Arizona had drive-in movie theaters, they click on Arizona and the 20 towns, child categories, that had drive-in movie theaters shows.

The url for my drive-in site is in my .sig.

The other site will be similar in category setup.

Thanks !

Does MT handle click events ? As in click on a parent category, and it then shows sub-categories under that category. Is this possible ?

Or is there another way to just show the main categories and show the sub-categories when the reader wants to see them ? pulldown menu, etc.

I did try and read the documentation on the if and category MT tags, but as I found in several posts in here, the documentation is lacking.

Thanks for any help !

Click events would be Javascript and styles

I don't know if this helps http://www.movabletype.org/2008/08/creatin...vable_type.html

Thanks !

I have tried a javascript/dhtml menu here:
http://www.twinhelix.com/dhtml/fsmenu/

So if I get that to working, I could just show the parent categories in the sidebar.

I used a version of fsmenu on the wp blog I am converting from, but when I try it on mt 4.21, the left sidebar vanishes. I don't remember off-hand which MT style I am using. Login to the blog and check. Ah, Tristan Blue MT 4.2

It occured to me that those menus and MT might be using similar commands somewhere. Maybe a css conflict. No idea really. The small sample menu that comes with Free Style Menus shows correctly. No idea why the difference.
