If you cruise the usual web designer/developer sites, everyone's talking about Wordpress. You'd think no designer ever touched another CMS. Now, I'm a diehard MT'er, mostly because I've used it for years and can make it do almost whatever I want. But I'm curious why it hasn't caught on among designers/developers in quite the same way.
My guesses:
- WP was open source before MT was, so the user base grew faster.
- Designers and developers can choose from zillions of templates, saving them the trouble of learning each others' skills.
- It's easier to teach a client to use WP than MT
What do you think?

The installs are much faster and quicker on WP, I'll give them that. I think that people only want to to the most basic things with a weblog, so they go with WordPress. It's simple, and it does what most people expect it to do. MT is generally reserved for people who tend to do more with it, such as using it in a corporate enviroment. I use MTOS for two reasons, a) I tend to buck mainstream trends, and b) because I prefer the MT interface.
Another reason why I think people prefer WP is it has more users that use it, thanks to its free blog hosting on Wordpress.com. This may get people to buy some web hosting, and use Wordpress on their weblog, since they're so used to it. These are my two cents. I don't hate WP, I just prefer the more flexible solution that is Movable Type.
