Full Version: Moving to New Domain on Same Server

I just bought a new domain, which I plan to use for a blog that already exists.  The new domain (ailurophile.com) will point to a directory (ailurophile) on the same hosting account as the old one.  I'm keeping the old domain (christine-murphy.net) where it is (points to a directory called *christine*).

The archives folder is called *oldstuph*.  If I create a folder of the same name in *ailurophile*, change the URL and path configurations, and rebuild, will that move everything over to the new directory?  Or is there anything else I should be doing?

I'm less concerned about the graphics, as most of those have the absolute URL, and would still show up.  So at least for now, I know I can leave them where they are.

I just want to know what I'm in for before I get started!  Thanks in advance!

I moved my mt installation between domains housed on the same server, and it worked perfectly.  It probably wouldn't hurt to export your entries first, though, just in case.  :)

As you mention, mt will not make directories for you, so you'll need to create your archive directory manually.

Incidentally, I also moved the /mt directory to the new domain at the same time, because I didn't want it showing calling the old domain in the status bar, and there were no problems with that.  You just need to change the path to mt in the config section.

oh!  And I'm using mysql.  I have no idea about whether the situation would be the same with the berkeley db.

Hey Christine!

In addition to everything you said, you'll also want to go into your Blog Config and adjust the URLs and Paths to point to the correct places.  Are you moving MT, too, or just the data files?  I don't think you are, but if you are, then you'll need to change the info in mt.cfg to point to the correct place.

I think you've got it, and this should go smoothly for you!

Once you have things switched, and all the archives work okay, then you should be able to go into the old directory and delete the archive files there to save space smile.gif
