In Movable Type 4, when you enter tags, say if I made my first post about gaming and tagged it "gaming", and the second post I typed I punched in the letter G in the tags bar, Movable Type works its AJAX Javascript magic and suggests "gaming" as a tag in its Javascript helper. I have a large number of tags (250+) and the Javascript helper bogs down everything, making it slower than a snail with neurotoxins. Is there a plugin, setting, code, ANYTHING that will disable/remove the helper Javascript? But please don't suggest "turn off Javascript" in my browser. I can't use YouTube then, and I have to restart my browser every time anyway.

Are you sure your 250 tags are really slowing things that much? I've got 569 at the moment, and don't see it working any slower than when I create a new blog with none. Sorry, no suggestions, just commentary.

My computer is crazy slow, and Javascript bogs down Firefox 3 like a fat guy dragging down your golf caddy. No offense, fat guys.

So...can anyone tell me how to disable the tags auto-complete thing in Movable Type 4? There have them for WordPress, but is there a similar thing for Movable Type?

I haven't looked at it at all, but creating an alternate template for edit_entry.tmpl is probably the right direction to go.
