I just upgraded to MT 4.23 and then installed reCAPTCHA following the applicable instructions. I updated the Comment Form template to read:

<div id="comments-open-captcha"><$MTCaptchaFields$></div>

and I see the reCAPTCHA code in the page source on my site (http://myphotosucks.com)

However, the CAPTCHA box does not appear. Attempts to submit comments fail, presumably because the user has not entered a CAPTCHA.

Any suggestions?

In any event, the plug-in author contacted me and we resolved it. For anyone installing reCAPTCHA, the docs should refer to the template versions and not the MT version. In other words, if you're running MT 4.0 or 4.1 and upgrade to 4.23 but don't refesh your templates with the 4.23 ones, you need to follow the instructions as if you were running the earlier version and tweak both the form and javascript templates.
