I was running MT 4.2 and recently have had problems with image uploading.

I had aborted an image upload to select a different image and when I tried selecting the new image, I got a 404 error.

So I updated to 4.23 just now to be on the safe side. I got the 404 error again, and now am not getting any response at all when I click on the image upload or file upload boxes.

Not sure what to do and would appreciate some advice.

TIA

Yes, I'm using a shared Dreamhost server. No ImageMagick iirc. Otherwise, pretty bone-standard MT 4.23.

Can you post the exact error message. I had some problems on a private webserver where uploading did not work due to permissions on the temp directory. It may apply to your hosted service.

Note that it was working fine for a long time and then went weird all of a sudden. This is the error:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mydomain.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
