You might want to look into
Slashcode, the software that powers Slashdot.

Well, I was just trying to be helpful
There's no point in doing a lot of work making MT work like Slashcode if you can just use Slashcode.

thank you mena! but i think slash is (very) hard to install without a root account (doesn't have manual for it) and has a ugly design. I love MT, i only want to allow users & annonymous to post news (with my aprovation). Is that possible ?

You can go pretty far with MT-- it doesn't have a user registration or karma system though. If you just want topic icons and 'from the dept of' taglines, that's easy enough to do in MT. Can you be more specific as to what you need?
(BTW, I didn't mean to imply by my earlier post that Mena's response was sarcastic or insincere. I was just being silly.

Also, check out
Postnuke, a very good Content Management System written oin PHP. I run it at nolagay.com and I love it.

I was going to suggest that the user check out the various incarnations of "Nuke" such as the aforementioned PostNuke, PHPNuke, Xoops, Greymatter, Geeklog, and PHPSlash. If they want to stick closer to the blog-ish type of system then Pmachine offers a pretty good mix of Slashdot style CMS with more of a blog-ish intent behind it.
