Here’s the thing. I’m trying to put up a page on my website that has the link to my XML news feed and tells other indie filmmakers what XML is and how they can use it to put my news on their website. The only problem is in trying to explain this to them I have realized that I have virtually no idea what any of this stuff really is. I’ve tried searching on the internet for a clear laymen’s description of what XML is but only seem to come up with either people saying how great it is or a bunch of techno babble about different versions of it.
So here is my list of questions that hopefully someone can answer for me in plain English.
1. What is the difference between XML, RSS and RDF? I’ve heard all these terms when it comes to syndicating news. Do they all work with Moveabletype? Is one better then another? Or are they all the same thing?
2. Where do I get other XML syndicated news? Can I only get it from other blogs?
3. How do regular HTML going folk put my headlines on their HTML sites? Can they do it on geocities sites and stuff like that as well? Does it require them to install moveabletype or any other type of system or can they just copy and paste some type of script?
MT specific
1. I noticed that the XML file on my site is called “index.rdf” does this syndicate all the news from all my blogs or just one of them and if so which one? The index page I assume? How do I get the XML for my other blogs then?
2. How do I put other peoples XML headlines into my Moveabletype site?
Thanks everyone. I’m trying to get this all working as explain this to fellow indie filmmakers as simple as possible so they can get my news syndicated on their site and vice versa.
