I thought everyone might be interested to know that someone has developed a TrackBack-type utility that can be installed with blogging software other than MT.

Since the site is in German, I couldn't really read to find out if the pings are cross-compatible. Does something call for the creation of a "TrackBack Standard"?

Check it out: http://www.blogstrasse.de/trackback/

Well, Ben and Mena released a standalone version of Trackback (8.28.02) - here's the info from the main page.  I don't know about this German version; if its a version of Ben and Mena's standalone or if its something separate.  Does anybody speak enough German to find out? smile.gif

Here's the post on i.me.michael that led me there:

It seems that the TrackBack is similar to what is implemented in MT, but that it can be incoroporated into blog tools like GreyMatter. Michael, at the site above, is working on an English version.

So, it is not just a German version of the standalone, but something else using the concept.

If you read the info at the link I posted, you'll see that the standalone version of Trackback has instructions for use with any other weblog tool that has an id #, entry title, and permalink.  The examples are given for Blogger, GreyMatter, B2, pMachine, and Bloxsom.

So I'm still curious if these are the same tools...

Mama always told me to think before I speak. Sorry.

You reached my point, I wonder if these are the same tools.

Same as in a copy of? Not hardly - Daniel's is in PHP, storing pings in a MySQL database, and was released back in July. Same as in interoperable? Sure is - I've pinged and been pinged by people using his script.

sorry, Phil - Since I don't speak German, I didn't think that downloading the files would make any more sense to me than the webpage.  So I truly wasn't sure.

Thanks for clearing that up.
