I converted my homepage to a .php extension, but didn't convert any code. Left all the javascript etc, so I could convert as I had time.
Interesting thing is that when I did that It slowed the loading time way down. Even on DSL it took 10 seconds to load, wheras normally it only takes 2-3 seconds.
What is up with that? Any ideas? I went back to .html for now.

In my experience with PHP I've been disappointed because it doesn't come across as being ready for primetime. I'm biased because I like Perl.

Wow, did you add any php scripts into your file? If all you did was change the extension to .php, it shouldn't cause any slowdown. I use tons of scripts in my pages, and don't notice a big slow down because of it. You might check with your host and make sure there isn't something specific that you need to do to make PHP work properly.

Nope, just a straight conversion. I wanted to make sure what I had worked before fiddling with php.
Just tried it again and no slowing. Turns out my host had an Apache Worm they cleaned yesterday that may have affected the Webserver.
