Full Version: "Hold/Release status" feature

This is great software.  One of the main reasons that I chose MT was the "Hold/Release status" feature I read about before downloading it.  See http://www.movabletype.org/features.shtml, which reads:

QUOTE
Hold/Release status — allow for content editorial and approval by setting entries to "Hold", then let an editor approve by marking "Release", at which point the entries will be published on your site.

How does one do this?  I looked through the docs and the forums and I can't find any reference to it, other than in the feature list.  Any ideas?

TIA

I think that, really, you default to draft for the writers and have the editors change to publish.  Of course, I don't know if you can make it so an author doesn't have publish permission.

Anyone else know if that's possible?

Just a side note from what I've gathered on this subject - The original titles were Hold/Release, but that apparently was confusing to some people.  So around version 2, they changed to Draft/Publish because it seems a bit more intiuative.

Thanks for your replies.  I am aware of the "Draft/Publish" feature, (I use it for my own posts) but other authorized authors are able to change that setting, thereby publishing entries that have not yet been "approved" by me.

It doesn't appear (to me, at least) that there is any way to exercise true editorial control using MT.  As long as the individual authors can change from "Draft" to "Publish," they can post whatever they want.

It would be ideal if MT were configurable so as to prevent other authorized authors from ever selecting the "Publish" choice.  Perhaps the code is hackable to add this.

If anyone has any other thoughts on this I would appreciate it.

You can set permissions under the user details, which includes abilities to make new blogs, publish entries, rebuild, etc etc. This may help.

Thanks Michael.  That's true, but I cannot find anything that allows the "admin" person to prevent any individual author from actually *publishing* an entry at will.
