Can anyone make a recommendation about the best way to secure a weblog such as moveable type on a server so that it is not picked up by search engines and is accessible only to users with a password.
Is that a common way that Moveabletype users employ the software? Any tips, hints about setting it up that way?

Hmm... php? htaccess? cookies? It's definitely do-able.
Jenn has posted some stuff on staying out of google at sg I'm pretty sure! She also does restricted posts. Kristine probably has exact pointers. It's a place to start!

Yeah, there's a couple good threads on ScriptyGoddess about this one - here's Jenn's google removal thread -
Bookmarks: Google Removal and there are two threads about password protection:
How to's: How to make restricted access posts on your site and
MT hacks: More info on restricted post hack.
That should get you started at least
